Hang-gliders crash over Vallejo on Monday

A Vallejo hang-glider was hospitalized after crashing into another enthusiast in the air over Columbus Parkway Monday night, a Vallejo Fire Department spokesman said.

"Two hang-gliders collided over Columbus Parkway at about 6 p.m.," spokesman Mark Libby said. "They use that area; it's well known for this.

A young woman was hospitalized Sunday after being struck by a driver who fled the scene in Vallejo on Sunday, a Vallejo Fire Department spokesman said.

The 20-year-old woman, whose city of residence was not immediately known, was crossing Sonoma Boulevard near Meadows Drive at 10:20 p.m. and got as far as the median when she was hit, Acting Battalion Chief Morty Culverwell said.

Two killed in separate homicides in Vallejo over the weekend

The victim of a Saturday stabbing died of his wounds Sunday and one man was killed and two others wounded in a shooting in a Vallejo bar early Sunday, in separate homicides this weekend, police said.

These mark the city's sixth and seventh homicides of 2017.

Sustainable Solano seeks Vallejo sites for free food forest installation

There's a new weapon in the battle against food deserts in Vallejo.

A group called Sustainable Solano is working to create food forests here on public and private property. The group is also looking for folks to volunteer a patch of lawn for that purpose.

The idea grew out of the Benicia Community Gardens, said Nicole Newell, Sustainable Solano's landscaping program manager.

Nearly 60,000 pounds of chicken salad products sent to stores nationwide are being recalled, federal authorities announced Wednesday.

Three Ready Pac Foods Inc. establishments - in Swedesboro, N.J., Jackson, Ga., and the headquarters in Irwindale in Southern California, are recalling some 59,225 pounds of one variety of chicken salad product that may be tainted with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.

The Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center Breast Care Center has received a new three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons, Kaiser officials announced.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. workers are inspecting gas meters locally as part of its ongoing efforts to provide safe and reliable service to customers, company officials announced.

An American Canyon woman was arrested Sunday in a car reported stolen earlier the same day, a Vallejo Police Department spokesman said Monday.

At about 9:30 p.m. Sunday officers stopped a gray Chevrolet Tahoe in the 3200 block of Sonoma Boulevard and discovered it had been reported stolen.

Two men arrested in American Canyon for stealing large quantity of liquor

Two men were arrested Tuesday after allegedly stealing hundreds of dollars of liquor from a supermarket in American Canyon.

At approximately 9 a.m., a report was made by Safeway employees that two men had just stolen a large quantity of liquor, police said.

The suspects, Natali Cisneros, 18, and Tyree Vaughn, 20, both of San Francisco, were also reported to have fled the area in a grey Honda.

Drunk driver found guilty of murder for 2015 death in American Canyon

A man accused of killing a 69-year old woman while driving drunk in American Canyon in 2015 was found guilty by a jury Thursday afternoon at Napa County Superior Court.

On that fateful Saturday night, Oscar Felix, 42, of Napa was drinking at Mi Zacatecas Family Restaurant in American Canyon when he drew police attention for causing problems in the parking lot.

On the afternoon of Jan. 26, a woman entered In-Shape Gym in American Canyon and broke into several lockers in the women's bathroom, police said.

The suspect apparently found a set of keys, then made her way outside and stole the vehicle from the gym's parking lot.

With its U.S. operation based on Mare-Island, the France-based Alstom and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency have signed a two-year $14.5 million extension contract for an inventory control program, called Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI).

This will help the agency improve fleet availability, which is currently composed of 151 light rail vehicles, 26 historic streetcars and 40 cable cars, requiring a continuous supply of spare parts and inventory from a variety of vendors, Alsom officials said.

A Solano County man was denied parole in connection with a 1996 attempted murder case, Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley announced.

Haley announced that David Stander, 39, was denied parole after a Jan. 25, hearing before the Board of Prison Terms at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione.

Napa's Queen of the Valley verified a Level III Trauma Center

NAPA >> St. Joseph Health, Queen of the Valley Medical Center was recently verified a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), supporting the Level III Trauma Center title designated to the hospital by the county.

The Napa County Board of Supervisors named the hospital the county's "designated trauma center" in 1988 and that contract has been renewed several times, most recently, in 2016.
