Vallejo's Touro provost, COO, retires after seven productive years

After more than seven years of service to Touro University's California campus and the Northern California community, Provost and Chief Operating Officer Marilyn Hopkins, retired on Thursday, university officials said.

Senator Bill Dodd and Assembly-members Jim Frazier, Cecilia Aguiar-Curry and Tim Grayson recognized and honored her significant accomplishments with an official resolution, they said.

AMERICAN CANYON >> The city council unanimously agreed to support efforts to maintain the National Monument designation of Berryessa Snow Mountain - which may be threatened by Trump Administration policy - and to send individual letters to that effect to the federal government.

Opossum successfully removed from Benicia home by police

BENICIA >> Everyone went their separate ways none the worse for wear, after a Benicia Police Department Officer "rescued an opossum and a woman from each other (early Tuesday)," a department spokeswoman said.

For the tenth consecutive year, Kaiser Permanente received the highest ranking for customer satisfaction among California health plans, according to the J.D. Power 2017 Member Health Plan Study, Kaiser officials announced.

Kaiser outperformed all other California health plans, scoring 780 points on a 1,000-point scale, 64 points above the average statewide score, and 64 points more than the next highest ranked health plan, they said.

A pair of armed robbers made off with some loot after climbing in the take-out window of a Vallejo Taco Bell restaurant early Monday, Vallejo Police Lt. Kent Tribble said.

The incident happened at about 4 a.m. at the Taco Bell on Solano Avenue, he said.

"Two suspects apparently pried open and climbed through the take-out window while one employee was outside smoking on the other side of the building and another employee was sleeping," Tribble said.

Shots fired, no injuries, in Benicia

Two women were in custody early Sunday after one of them fired a gun, a Benicia Police Department spokeswoman said.

Residents in the area of the 900 block of Cambridge Drive might have heard and seen some police activity around 3:15 a.m. that day, where officers determined that no one had been injured in the incident.

Vallejo's ninth homicide of 2017 took the life of a male victim in the early hours of Saturday, Vallejo Police Department officials said.

Reports of a shooting in the area of the 400 block of Corcoran Avenue came in to police at about 12:15 a.m., they said.

Police found evidence of a crime scene but no victim, because he had left the scene before police arrived, department officials said.

A Vallejo man was hospitalized with serious injuries after crashing his motorcycle in town on Friday, Vallejo Police Department Lt. Kevin Bartlett said.

The crash happened just after noon at Rollingwood Drive and Pope Drive, when the driver apparently lost control of his Harley Davidson and crashed it, sustaining major, life-threatening injuries, he said.

Vallejo cops shoot Vallejo suspect in Martinez on Wednesday

A Vallejo man was hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds after a confrontation with police in Martinez on Wednesday, Vallejo Police Department spokesman Lt. Jeff Bassett said.

The events in Martinez were the culmination of nearly a week of police trying to track the man down, he said.

On May 25, Vallejo Police Department Crime Reduction Team (CRT) officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit with a man who was allegedly driving "in a severely reckless manner," Bassett said in a statement.
