If you want to live in California and also save money, the 10th best place to do that is Solano County, according to a new study by smartasset.com.

Smartasset.com's Stephanie Ciosek said the site's most recent study ranked Solano County, with a median household income of $66,828, the 10th best place to save among California's 58 counties.

An American Canyon man was taken into custody Sunday for being in possession of a truck stolen out of Sanger, in Fresno County, American Canyon Police Department officials said.

At about 5:30 p.m. an American Canyon Police officer noticed the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado reported stolen out of Fresno County, on Los Altos Drive, and 39-year-old Anthony Perales Sanchez, who lives on that street, around the vehicle.

Even before the most recent mass shooting - at Stoneman Douglas High in Florida - local law enforcement and school districts were aware of the terrifying trend in the United States and had begun training to maximize people's survival odds in the off chance it happens here.

While no one said they were happy that this type of training is necessary, they do say it's better than not having it.

Bay Area's 511 phone service now available in Cantonese, Mandarin

Cantonese and Mandarin language options have been added to the Bay Area's 511 phone system, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, officials announced on Thursday.

This latest expansion of the toll-free 511 traveler information service allows Cantonese- and Mandarin-speaking drivers, carpoolers, and transit riders to access key services to help them on their commutes and other journeys throughout the nine-county Bay Area, they said.

PG&E crews restore gas line struck in American Canyon

AMERICAN CANYON >> A construction crew accidently hit a gas line on Tuesday afternoon, prompting an evacuation of the Los Altos area, according to PG&E.

The crew reportedly struck a three-quarter steel line with a backhoe around 2 p.m. PG&E safely stopped the flow of gas around 2:30 p.m., a spokesperson for the utility said.

Vallejo police launch effort to curb vehicle vs. pedestrian crashes

Due to the rash of vehicle vs. pedestrian crashes since the beginning of the year, the Vallejo Police Department is launching a stepped-up pedestrian safety enforcement operations on Friday, Lt. Michael Nichelini said in a news release.

The new effort will focus enforcement on collision-causing factors involving motorists and pedestrians, with routine traffic patrols directing efforts to trouble spots and special targeted patrols deployed to crack down on drivers and pedestrians who violate traffic laws meant to protect everybody on the roads, he said.
