Bob Rollerson of Vallejo said he's not sure exactly when his collecting turned into hoarding, but at some point it became clear that his house wasn't big enough for him and his vast record collection -- and Flashback Music Store, 537 Georgia Street, was born.

"This started by my hoarding records in my house," the 70-year-old Vietnam era Navy veteran said.

American Canyon's long-awaited 9/11 memorial being unveiled Sept. 11

AMERICAN CANYON >> It's taken about seven years, but American Canyon's 9/11 memorial, featuring a twisted piece of the Twin Towers, is in place and will be officially unveiled at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, Fire Chief Glen Weeks said.

It is also the city's first piece of public art, he said.

The rusted, dented and twisted steel mounting bracket is flanked by two asymmetrical glass panels - one 9 feet tall and the other 11 feet tall and representing the Twin Towers - and rests in concrete in front of the city's public safety building at 911 Donaldson Way East.

Dodd bill to close gender pay gap heads to governor

Assemblymember Bill Dodd's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act of 2016 passed the state legislature last week with bipartisan support, his office announced.

The Napa Democrat who's running for State Senate, introduced Assembly Bill 1890, which would "ensure companies that do business with the state of California have fair compensation policies and practices that do not unlawfully discriminate based on gender or race," according to the announcement.

Bill allows Doolittle Center to buy historic plane

Vacaville's air and space museum may soon own a plane flown by General Doolittle with the passage of a bill by Assemblymembers Bill Dodd (D-Napa) and Jim Frazier (D-Oakley), Dodd's office announced.

The bill, AB 724, which grants a sales tax exemption to Vacaville's Jimmy Doolittle Center, recently passed the legislature with bipartisan support, giving the air and space museum the ability to purchase a fully restored 1932 Shell Lockheed Vega flown by Doolittle himself, according to the announcement.

The Habit Burger Grill has partnered with No Kid Hungry to help feed America's hungry children, company officials announced.

Through the end of September, The Habit, including its Vallejo location, is raising funds to help children in need with nutritious meals, they said.

Guests who donate $2 or more to No Kid Hungry will receive a coupon for a free charburger with cheese, good on a return visit, officials said.

The American Canyon Welcome Center was sort-of like James Cooper's baby, so, it makes sense that the president and CEO of the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce would throw a birthday bash on Friday for the first anniversary of the center's opening.

It was a couple of months in the planning because chamber officials needed to be sure the concept was working, Cooper said.

Lexus -- stolen from Oakland 10 months ago -- found burning in Vallejo early Thursday

A car reported stolen nearly a year ago was found ablaze on a Vallejo street early Thursday, Vallejo Police Department Lt. Kent Tribble said.

"Vallejo Fire crews put out a vehicle fire at about 5:45 a.m. in the 100 block of Deborah Street," he said. "The fully engulfed Lexus was found to be reported stolen out of Oakland on October 31, 2015.

A Future Forum Town Hall with Sonoma State University students is planned for 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 with U.S. Reps. Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) and Eric Swalwell, who represents the East Bay and is Chairman of the Future Forum in Congress, Thompson's office announced.

The Future Forum, introduced by Swalwell last year, is a group of 18 young, Democratic Congress Members "focused on bridging the gap between Congress and young Americans by discussing issues of importance to millennials," according to the announcement.

American Canyon High School Band teacher Matthew Smith was tired of having students sell candy or baked goods or wash cars to raise funds for the program, so he devised a different angle.

The band holds its second annual Mattress Fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday in the school's multi-use room.

Two years after the devastating south Napa Earthquake seriously damaged several local schools, a bill by Assemblymember Bill Dodd (D-Napa) requiring school districts to meet earthquake safety guidelines unanimously passed the Legislature, Dodd's office announced Wednesday.

The legislation will help keep students and teachers safer by requiring all school districts in seismically active areas like the Bay Area to ensure that their classroom contents -- like heavy bookshelves or hanging light fixtures -- comply with state earthquake safety guidelines, his staff said.

Dodd's ID theft resolution bill headed to Governor

A bill by Assemblymember Bill Dodd (D-Napa) to expedite the resolution process for victims of identity theft unanimously passed the legislature this week, and now heads to the Governor's office, Dodd's office announced.

The Identity Theft Resolution Act will dramatically reduce the time it takes for victims of identity theft to clear their name, end harassing phone calls, and remove negative credit reporting, his office said.

AMERICAN CANYON >> It took a week, but two Vallejo men believed to be responsible for stealing items from unlocked cars in this city, were taken into custody Monday, Police Chief Tracy Stuart said.

The thefts occurred sometime between Aug. 14 and 15, she said, and two men were later caught on video surveillance using a victim's credit card at Walgreen's and Safeway in Vallejo, she said.

"Wild in the City" -- The theme of the third annual Visions of the Wild festival, is planned for Sept. 15 through Sept. 18 in Vallejo and American Canyon, United States Forest Service officials announced.

The festival is a celebration of the plants and animals that live in our urban and suburban settings, they said.

Dangerous moth declared eradicated, Napa, Sonoma quarantine to be lifted

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) will soon lift the federal quarantine on 446 square miles of Napa and Sonoma counties, in place because of a dangerous moth since June 2010, U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson announced this week.

This week, APHIS declared the European Grapevine Month eradicated from the from the United States, he said.

Armed man caught on video robbing Vallejo gas station

An armed man was caught on video robbing a Vallejo gas station Wednesday night, police said.

At about 9 p.m., a man walked into the Sage Street Chevron station, produced a black handgun and demanded money, Lt. Kent Tribble said.

"The clerk cooperated, handing over an unknown amount of cash from the till," he said.

The Solano Land Trust needs volunteers for a work party to help maintain the Lynch Canyon Open Space Park on Saturday, agency officials announced.

Bay Area ferry service, enhanced for the summer, will continue that way at least through December, 2017, ferry officials announced Friday.

American Canyon does National Night Out on Tuesday

Two-Toes Seawolf, Big Blue Three-Gates and others on Tuesday welcomed folks to their pirates' lair -- otherwise known as a closed-off bit of American Canyon's Via Bellagio -- with red and black balloons and beads, skull and crossbones banners and ocean-themed snacks for National Night Out.

Other neighborhoods threw burgers and dogs on the barbecue, baked cakes, held pot-lucks or otherwise engaged in the popular annual event.
