Sales tax in California drops .25 percent on Jan. 1, Board of Equalization officials said.
The statewide sales and use tax rate decreases one quarter of one percent, from 7.50 percent to 7.25 percent, with the new year, BOE officials said. The decrease in the statewide rate is effective for all cities and counties in California; though, in many jurisdictions, like Vallejo, the actual sales and use tax rate may still be higher than the statewide rate due to added district taxes.
