One student each from Vallejo, Benicia and American Canyon were among five appointed by U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson to the nation's service academies from the 5th Congressional District, Thompson announced.
Every year, Congress members nominate candidates to attend the country's four service academies: the Air Force Academy, United States Merchant Marine Academy, United States Military Academy at West Point, and the United States Naval Academy.
