There's a new weapon in the battle against food deserts in Vallejo.
A group called Sustainable Solano is working to create food forests here on public and private property. The group is also looking for folks to volunteer a patch of lawn for that purpose.
The idea grew out of the Benicia Community Gardens, said Nicole Newell, Sustainable Solano's landscaping program manager.
