Local cancer fighter holds fund-raiser dinner to get alternative treatment

It's a race against time, and a rare and especially aggressive form of uterine cancer, that prompted Jamie Ramirez's friends and family to hold a fundraiser spaghetti feed in Benicia on Sunday - to raise the $28,000 still needed to get her specialized treatment offered only in Arizona.

A Vallejo native and longtime Fairfield resident, Ramirez, a 39-year-old massage therapist, said the stage 4 Leiomyosarcoma was discovered when she went in for the removal of what she and doctors believed were benign fibroid tumors.
