Tom Sawyer's got nothing on the volunteers who spent much of Monday whitewashing the fence surrounding the Mare Island Cemetery as part of their 9/11 Day of Service.
Along with the dozen or so who attacked the fence with paint and brushes, other volunteers spent their Sept. 11 morning raking, pruning and otherwise providing some TLC to the historic Mare Island Cemetery, organizer Tina Chechourka said.
