Cal Maritime seeks local families to connect with new students

Vallejo's California State University Maritime Academy, which draws students from around the country and the globe, is often new students' first extended period away from home, which can be daunting - especially in an unfamiliar city.

So officials of the 88-year-old school, launched its Cadet-Community Connection in 2013, matching volunteer hosts with incoming freshman cadets, to provide a local connection.
