Cancer kids support group awards first-ever survivor scholarship

Tim Garrido of Vacaville said the world changed when his son was diagnosed with cancer at age 4.

Co-founding a local support group for "cancer parents" has helped, he said.

"My son Joshua was diagnosed with leukemia in 2009," Garrido said. "He's in remission and doing well at age 12."

There are few things that can put more stress on a family than a child with a life-threatening illness, the law enforcement officer said.
