Twinkling lights are up along First Street, and Benicia is revving up for the holidays.
The city is again inviting shoppers to "skip the mall, shop small" by taking part in the annual Small Business Saturday on November 26. So-called big-box retailers dominate Black Friday, but independent shops are hoping that customers will patronize locally owned, smaller businesses as well.
